What do you think is the hardest thing about getting a job? Most people would say it’s writing a great resume because without it you won’t even be taken into consideration. When you don’t get a chance there is nothing more you can do except apply to the next company, but those people who think writing a resume is hard are wrong. It’s actually the easiest part of getting a job because you can get help from anyone. You could even pay money to have a professional write it for you.
The hardest part of getting a job is the interview itself and it all comes down to how good you are as to whether or not you get it. You can have the best resume in the world and lose the job as soon as you step foot inside the interview room. If you’re fresh out of school or you haven’t been looking for a job in ages you might not know how to showcase yourself in the right way, so right now we’re going to look at the skills you will need to get through the interview with flying colors.
Learn to be perfectly calm
The easiest way to mess up an interview is by not being able to control your emotions. It doesn’t matter how great you would be for the job because when you start flapping under the pressure you won’t be able to answer questions in the right way. You’ll definitely not show them your true personality. The only way you will impress someone is by learning how to stay calm under pressure.
Have a game plan before you go in
You should know by now that people always like to ask certain questions in an interview. You might get asked how you have went out of your way to help a customer before and unless you can think of things in a split second you won’t know what to say. Think about all the questions you could be asked before the day of your interview and the answers will roll off your tongue.
Maintain eye contact
Eye contact is highly underrated and it can do many things. It shows the interviewer you are confident in what you’re saying which is essential. It will also make someone like you because if you can speak to someone without looking away it shows you have a good connection with them. The guy or girl in the corner looking at the wall while they speak won’t get the job.
Time to get personal
Having great qualifications is great, but have you ever noticed how people always give the jobs to their friends? Everyone knows that when you know someone and have something in common with them you think of them in a more positive way. You obviously won’t have time to become friends with the person interviewing you, but try and pick up on things you are speaking about and relate to them on a personal level.
Backing up your resume
They will have your resume lying in front of them and can you imagine how stupid it would look if you got confused about questions they were asking you from it and you couldn’t answer them? They might think the whole thing is a figment of your imagination and you are not capable of doing the job. Study your resume so you know it off the top of your head.
